What I would love to do is pick up the 'phone and have a chat with Dad. I have a photograph of Mum that I natter away to and now I will put one alongside it of Dad. I miss them so very much, but how amazing it is that they have left so many happy memories. As I sit here thinking of Dad, a whole list springs to mind: Newnham Bridge, fairness, rallying, motor racing, times with Robert and Robert's friends, running up and down the stairs at Lee Longlands, customer visit before work... 'Oh Mr Shipley! Let's open a bottle of Champagne!' and so they did!!! Decorating, entertaining, relaxed and confident driver, Cornwall, the cliffs at Tintagel, swimming, Areley Kings, 'I think I'll have a bit of cheese', 'tut', 'consider yourself told off', Donald Duck, golf, cricket, Villa, saxaphone, snooker, Shipping Forecast, Algebra, ducks, driving lessons, Triumph Herald, sports cars, National Service memories, one way street, The Merchant of Venice, concerts, RSC, speeding... 'Is that all?', tyre change in 5 minutes... well, the golf course was beckoning! ... the list could fill many pages. Dad has left behind more than this though. Just as I see Mum's determination in Stephanie, I see Dad's gentle smile in Max. Dad was always there with help, often before you realised how much you needed it. In all of us he has left a strong sense of responsibility towards each other and to those around us, and above all an enduring sense of calm.
